After I done this... when i change the country i get a 404 http://beta.tayyibunonline.... (try changing he dropdown country)

without this i get
The URI you submitted has disallowed characters.but this hax has made loads of my other issues go away

Yeah I completely agree, dont modify code files. I assume this has been fixed in the later version of codeigniter (I'm not much of a user anymore) since this blog post is a couple years old.

Don't overwrite the core file. Make a new file called MY_URI that extends CI_URI and place it in the application/libraries folder. Then copy the method containing the error to this file and fix it there. Should you ever update CI to a newer version, your fix will be maintained. And you don't have to keep track of which core files you messed with.

Thanks! I definitely didnt explore the mountains as much as I should have while in Santa Monica, but the next time I'm there I will have to check it out for sure. Thanks for the suggestions. There really is a lot to explore in Southern California, and it is a great place to be outdoors. I wouldn't mind living there again.

Great post, as someone who lived in LA for eight years and worked in Santa Monica it rings very true. I do have to defend the honor of the mountains though! You should get to the Angeles mountains, up by Pasadena:

Even though the peaks may only be at 10,000 feet, that's quite something when the base of the range is almost at sea-level.

That may be a little far, so I highly recommend exploring the Santa Monica mountains too. Again, the raw elevation seems wimpy to anyone who's lived in CO, but you can have some wonderful hikes:

Then there's the Channel Islands, especially Santa Cruz. It's a shame that more people in LA don't take advantage of the wilderness on their doorstep, but it was what kept me there for so long, despite the traffic.

wow exactly what I was looking for, I just transfered my stuff to a server with PHP5.3 and bang the links stopped working and I was worried about what I did wrong lol.
